Dangerous Rats in Ogden, Utah

Rats are commonly known to be dangerous—after all, they carried the Plague that wiped out something like 25% of Europe in the Middle Ages. Today they are better known for carrying fleas or rabies or something, but they can still pose a medical danger—for example when a rat infestation causes sleep depravation in a doctor.

I received a call from a doctor in Ogden, Utah. She was very stressed out because she couldn't sleep. She couldn't sleep because of noise in the walls and ceiling of her house. She described the noise very clearly: quick running and scurrying, scratching and squeaking. Of course, the sound was primarily in her bedroom wall and directly over her bed.

When I mentioned the possibility of a rat infestation she became even more upset. "I don't have a dirty house. How can I have these filthy creatures in my home?" I assured her that rat problems are very common on the east side of the Wasatch Front and explained that these animals aren't just attracted to dirty houses, but they sure will make a house dirty if they are allowed to stay.

We went to her home to perform an on-site inspection. Sure enough, the attic showed classic signs of rat infestation: feces, tracks and rubbing, urine trails, caches of food. But, how were the animals getting in? We finally found the access point. Near her barbeque grill was a beautifully landscaped flower bed that provided the necessary cover. The animals had discovered a gap around the gas line and enlarged the hole just enough to slip through.

This rat infestation had a happy ending. Very quickly the animals were trapped and the access sealed off so no future animals would see it as a welcome mat. The good doctor began sleeping well again and was able to alertly focus on her patients rather than be distracted by noisy, nocturnal animals.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Ogden and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Where can I get help with Pigeon Problems in Ogden, UT

I have a home in Ogden, UT, kind of near the University. The past few years I started having pigeon problems. There were just a few birds at first but the next year there were more and this year it became ridiculous. The droppings are a big problem. My house is stained, especially on the roof. There is a mess all over my yard and sidewalk. The groups of birds are surprisingly noisy.

I called the Health Department three times and all I got was the run-around. They are not responsible for wild animals. I called the city and county animal control people. They are not responsible for wild animals. I even called the police and, guess what? They are not responsible for wild animals. I figured someone had to be responsible for these birds. I can't shoot them. It is against the law to discharge a gun in town. I have thought about poison, but what about the squirrels or the birds I do like and see often on my neighbor's feeder? I would feel terrible if something happened to them. This pigeon problem has got to have a solution.

I started talking to people, figuring someone had to know something about how to get rid of pigeons. Finally, a co-worker of mine said his brother worked for the University and they used to have a pigeon problem. They called a company called Allstate Animal Control and got a solution to their problem. So, I went to the Internet, looked these guys up and gave them a call.

They came out and took a look at my house. It was a little embarrassing to have someone see such a mess, but they were very nice and professional and said this was a problem they could solve. They set up traps—these big metal cage looking things—but at first it didn't seem like anything was happening. They warned me that it would be this way. "Pigeon work requires patience," they said.

About a month later, the traps were sprung and almost overnight all the birds were gone. Really gone. My technician, Brandon, took them away and they won't come back. The gutters and attic area (Yes, some had made it inside my house!) were such a mess I had them do some clean up for me. Brandon was able to recommend some products that I have used on my roof and sidewalk and I am really excited about the results. My house is clean again. My pigeon problem was solved—the secret was finding the right guy, and Allstate Animal Control definitely got me to the right guy.
