Pigeon and Bat Removal from Pleasant Grove High School

Sometimes nature seems to gang up on people or buildings and Pleasant Grove High School was one of these situations. The building was infested by not one, but two particularly filthy animals and needed bat removal and pigeon control, as well as serious help with clean up, at the same time.

The school's situation was a common one. At first, an animal seems pretty cool. People welcome the animals as a reminder of nature and may even feed or otherwise encourage them. But then one animal or bird becomes hundreds and there are serious health threats, both mental and physical, and serious smell and serious mess and it is time to do something: Time to call for help and get the animal control and removal that is needed.

In this particular case, the main problems were bats colonizing the elevator shaft and air ventilation systems in the east wing. Outside, pigeons had chosen to roost in the same general area and their nests and feces were fouling (no pun intended) the ventilation systems.

We addressed both problems simultaneously. We established pigeon trapping stations all around the infested area. It takes a few weeks to trap pigeons because of their social nature and natural trap wariness.

While that system was established, we also went to work on the bat removal. The affected areas were high and special man lifts known as JLG's were used. There were also a number of very tight places we needed to access that made the job physically as well as mentally challenging.

The people we worked around made the work feel easy. The teachers in particular were excited to have someone there doing something and they often stopped to encourage us and ask questions about our techniques and our progress. The students were cool, too, and made going to work every day a pleasure.

As the plan started to work, people became happier and happier. The bats were vented out and the whole building completely bat proofed. The pigeons were trapped and taken away, never to return. We applied a number of odor control treatments that really helped the smell. Very quickly Pleasant Grove High School returned to being just as pleasant as it should be.

It is hard when animals gang up on a building, but it is a common occurrence. The same things that attract one type of animal, bird or snake are likely to attract more: shelter, food, water, safety. It is important to treat animal problems sooner rather than later. The problem will be less severe and less likely to involve multiple animals, but if it does, rest assured that it is never too late and there are people who can help you. Call us for bat removal, pigeon control or any other pest animal problem and we will make your building pleasant again, too.

Literary Pigeons in Provo, UT

Let me tell you right away that the pigeons weren't hanging around this Provo, Utah area library because they were interested in the books. They were interested in the belfry and made their presence felt in many unpleasant and uncomfortable ways. The library needed pigeon removal and they needed it urgently.

Over the years the birds collected around the library. The belfry became fouled with mess, feathers, remains of nests and carcasses. The birds covered the building, leaving stains and feathers and spilling into an adjacent park. The mess and smell built up.

This pigeon removal was a challenge because we didn't just need to remove the birds and clean up the mess, but we needed to repel them and completely block access to the structure so they could never access it again. There were so many birds, the library expressed doubt that we would really be able to do what they wanted done.

We established trapping stations and in one month we trapped more than 200. Pigeons cannot be relocated because of their strong homing instinct, so the birds were humanely euthanized.

As the trapping plan progressed, we devoted ourselves to clean up. The sheer volume of cleanup was amazing. These are filthy birds and make more waste pound-for-pound than just about any other creature I have encountered. As we cleaned, removed and disinfected, we devised a plan for blocking out future access. Special materials were used in a variety of ways to make the library pigeon free and leave it safe and clean for patrons.

Very quickly, the birds were gone and the belfry was again a highlight of the building, rather than an embarrassment of smell and mess. The library was very pleased with our pigeon removal and said that they never should have doubted that we would be successful.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Provo and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Trapping Skunks in Provo, UT

I am an independent guy, a real do-it-yourselfer. There are very few things around the house that I can't build or fix. So when skunks showed up and moved in under the deck of my home in Provo, UT, I was certain that this was a problem I could handle.

I got a live trap and put it out. Bang. The first night I got one. "Trapping skunks is easy," I thought, "Why do people call for help when they could just as well do it themselves. Cowards."

The next night, there was plenty of smell as evidence that my troubles were not ended so easily. So, I got my handy little trap and set it again. No luck. Maybe I needed different bait. Over the next while I tried everything kind of lure imaginable: cat food, dog food, sardines, a chicken leg. No luck. Well, actually I did have some luck. I caught the neighbor's cat twice, which irritated the neighbor. Most nights, something was taking the bait and disappearing, usually not even springing the trap.

The smell was growing and lingering around my house. I would catch a whiff at odd times, and feel annoyed. I stopped sleeping well at night, looking out the window and watching at every little sound. I would sit up trying to catch a glimpse of the animal and figure out how he was tricking the trap. Trapping skunks was becoming an obsession. My wife was now involved and annoyed. Just like a wife who must nag her husband about asking for directions, mine started to get on my case: "Just call someone!"

After several weeks, and many vain attempts to get rid of the skunks, my wife finally started to check around. She found Allstate Skunk Control on the Internet and gave them a call. She told them of my early success and the recent frustration. They said they could help and sent out a technician. I am not entirely certain what he did that was different than what I did, but he trapped the skunk. Better yet, he trapped two skunks. My home had become a sort of smell hotel and would have been much worse this spring when the babies started arriving.

So that is my story about trapping skunks. I learned that, while I still replace leaky faucets and mow my own grass, next time I have a wild animal problem I will fix it by making a phone call to Allstate Animal control myself!
