Messy Work: Bat Jobs in Champaign County, Ohio
Bats are creatures of habit; they’ll go anywhere that is dark, damp, and accessible. Their quick check off list for the perfect home means that no house, piece of property, or building is completely safe from bats. While we do receive regular calls about bat problems, the more serious ones occur in foreclosed homes, empty rentals, abandoned buildings, and anywhere else where no people are around to complain. When these empty locations become infested with bats, the true problem becomes the damage done over time.
Problems that occur in areas excluded to the public, or places that don’t experience human presence hardly ever, is that no one is around to catch the infestation early on. Instead, the issue will be discovered weeks, months, or sometimes even years after the initial problem has begun. When it reaches that point, sometimes the bat exclusion is quicker and easier than the clean-up and damage control. For example, about a year ago we got called to a home that had previously been foreclosed. The new owners were looking to flip it for a profit; the house itself was in decent condition – a little paint in and out, some new floors to replace some rot, and a little work to bring electrical and plumbing up-to-date and it would have been good to go, but, there had been a severe bat problem in the attic.
When I say severe, I mean borderline full infestation. We vented out a couple hundred bats before we could even start on the clean-up. Over the year and a half the home had been foreclosed, copious amounts of guano and other contaminants had built up significantly, that meant that along with our regular equipment, we also had to roll in dumpsters to hold all of the feces, rotting wood, and affected insulation that was removed from the area. The complete job ended up setting the house’s renovation back by several weeks, and set the buyers wallets back as well.
All in all, when it comes to abandoned or frequently empty places – owned personally or by the state – regular check-ins and inspections can save a lot of time and cash.

Wild animals on your property can damage vegetation and structures and reduce property value.

Champaign County and surrounding areas. Give me a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping.

The situations we resolve and main trapping and removal services we provide are: raccoon families in attics and chimneys,
woodpeckers drilling siding. mud swallow nests on stucco, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics,
voles and gophers destroying lawns, skunks stealing pet food, bat infestations, and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.
Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their commotion and smell.
Raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds;
skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system?
We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that

What’s my Job Again?
For some reason, working in wildlife removal gets confused as animal control ALL the time. Everyone in my company and I’m sure other wildlife removal companies around the country deal with calls that are meant for Animal Control on a regular basis. I expected as much when I originally got into the business because I used to mix the two up as well (I don’t anymore). What I didn’t expect were the calls thinking that we performed pet services. Sometimes we get calls about grooming pets, on several occasions we have been contacted by people asking us to euthanize pets, and we’ve even taken calls from people that confused us for a pet-sitting service.
Over time we have all become accustomed to the strange calls looking for services we don’t provide, but once we got a call that even surprised me. I’m not sure exactly where the communication error was, or what part of our services were misunderstood, but one Tuesday afternoon we received a call from a man in California – just to clarify, Barnes Wildlife Control services Ohio – the complete other side of the country. Before he even told us his problem we tried to let him know that we wouldn’t be able to help him, but he persisted in telling us that he needed our services.
He was recommended to us by a friend of a friend of a friend that lived in Ohio that we had assisted in the past. He was looking for someone to cremate his dog, a service that we do NOT provide in any way, shape, or form. He was insistent that he could ship us the corpse, and we could send the ashes back. I was definitely taken aback; nowhere, in any time, place, or dimension, had I ever advertised ANY sort of services that even related to that. It took us awhile to convince him that we couldn’t help him, but eventually we were able to convince him. To this day, I haven’t received a call as odd as that one.
