An Unusual Squirrel Removal Project

As a wildlife control technician I have seen critters in some strange places. From a squirrel inside a kitchen cabinet to a raccoon lounging on a bed, I have seen it all. One of the strangest situations I have encountered started with a simple squirrel in the house call. It was my last stop of the day and I was hoping to quickly trap and remove the squirrel and head home for dinner.

When I arrived I was told the squirrel was trapped in the laundry room and thought to myself, “This will be easy.” I slowly entered the room and could hear a light scratching in the wall, but couldn't see the squirrel. I looked high and low and still saw nothing. The scratching was now coming from the clothes dryer so I put on my gloves and slowly opened the door, but still saw nothing. I was now feeling frustrated and thought, “How can I remove a squirrel if I can't find it?”

“Of course,” I said to myself, “the squirrel is hiding under the dryer.” I tipped the machine up and expected this little guy to come running out, but nothing did and the scratching only got louder. By now I realized this wasn't going to be a simple squirrel removal and started to disassemble the dryer. Once I removed the back panel I could finally see the poor little squirrel trapped in the exhaust fan. With a little help I was able to free the squirrel and humanely relocate this lost Eastern Grey Squirrel.

After a complete inspection I found that the clothes dryer vent was unscreened. The squirrel felt the warm air flowing out of the exhaust tube and entered to get out of the cold. Many things can be done to keep nuisance wildlife outside where they belong, some as basic as a vent cover or a chimney cap. As a wildlife control technician it is my responsibility to not only remove unwanted wildlife, but to point out other areas of possible wildlife entry in the future. Pigeons bring damage and noise to Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

We have a group of Pigeons that have invaded an area behind our business. We have had a person come and install bird spikes along the window ledges and rooftop, but the pigeons have found a way to avoid them and are still making a mess. They are in a closed alleyway between our building and the neighboring building. Lee S.

I live in an old 100 year Victorian condo. We are having a problem with pigeons roosting in the attic of our building. They have torn the screens to the outside and are roosting.
