Goochland, Virginia has numerous rat problems

Goochland, Virginia homeowners struggle with rat problems.

Last month, we saw a rat on a city street a couple of blocks away. Last week, next door neighbors' dog caught and killed a rat. This morning, our cat alerted us to a small rat (appeared to be juvenile Norway rat) on our deck, eating crumbs leftover from a gathering, yesterday. Lots of black squirrels and some chipmunks in the area. We've heard that rats don't live in the same areas as these other species, but that does not appear to be the case. We live in an older suburb with some areas with densely packed houses, commercial food services (restaurants, bakeries, etc.) nearby. These areas have been known to have a rat problem. But, in two years this is the first we have seen in our immediate neighborhood. Christopher H.

I am, slowly but surely, being crowded out of my house by rats (I think they are the "tree" variety)... I am a vegetarian animal lover, and I simply have not known how to handle their encroachment. I still do not wish to kill them, but they have taken over most of my house. I have other pets and there is ample food and water available for all. Also, my house is old and there are many entrances (which they see no reason to employ as exits!). I am fearful that they will do electrical damage and burn the place down. Is there help for me (apart from psychotherapy...)? Margaret F.

We have an ongoing rat in the attic/crawl space problem. We have screened and foamed every opening we or the exterminator or critter control can find and still no solution...we believe we need the infrared camera to find out where they are coming in. Margaret N.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Goochland and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

For pigeon and bird control, bat removal, or relief from other pest animals, call our wildlife management experts. Many nuisance wildlife companies offer critter capture and control; our wildlife operators provide professional pest wild animal management. We remove the following AND MORE:

  • Bats from attics, eaves and belfries
  • Pigeons from rooftops
  • Swallow nests from eaves, stucco, log siding, and exterior walls
  • Voles that tear and dig up lawns and destroy root systems
  • Moles and gophers that damage golf courses and gardens

Goochland, Virginia stinks, thanks to the skunks

Goochland, Virginia smells skunk too much.

I just moved into a new construction home on Feb 15. During the construction process, a skunk got into the walls and attic. It has been able to move throughout the house to various attic areas. My husband saw the skunk face-to-face and he is positive it is a skunk. From the noises we hear, I believe there is only one, but am not positive. I would like it removed as soon as possible as I have been told it may be a mother skunk ready to give birth soon. Kira D.

I have a 10x16 office building, which is low to the ground, and heard what I know to be a skunk under. Three nights ago, while at my computer I heard what sounded like a fight just under me. Lots of squealing and high pitched growling, and crashing into the floor joists. The last 2 nights I heard nothing, but the skunk odor is overwhelming. I think it may have died or has given birth, then died. John P.

We have a skunk hole under the concrete slab by the front door. For 3 out of 5 mornings at 6AM, it sprays in the hole. The smell has permeated the basement walls, entered the heating system and traveled through the entire house. We want the skunk removed and the odor cleared from our house. I am concerned about the use of chemicals because we have two young children and I am pregnant. Chris M.
