Squirrel Inspection

The most important aspect of getting rid of squirrels in the attic is to first do a thorough attic inspection.

While performing an attic inspection for squirrels such as grey squirrels, flying squirrels or red squirrels, you want to look for gaps along the soffit vents and gable vents to locate any possible squirrel entry points. Other areas that squirrels might enter are from the roof. These entry points could be attic fans, attic vents, ridge vents, bathroom vents and any type of pipe that could give access to squirrels into the attic.

Once you have located a gap that the squirrels are getting into the attic, it is important not to stop your attic inspection there. In many cases there are secondary entry points, and in severe squirrel attic infestations, there could be multiple entry points.

During the inspection process, if you are not a wildlife professional, you want to look for any type of squirrel droppings, squirrel hair, squirrel nesting material and any chewed wires will be leading indicators of a squirrel infestation in the attic.

Grey Squirrel dropping can be located in areas called latrines, which are areas that squirrels designate as the area the use the restroom. The droppings are much bigger than mouse dropping and vary in shapes and sizes. They are the size of a pea and are also round like a pea with a dark brown color. If you find evidence of these droppings it is important to get a sample and put it in a zip lock baggie to be identified by a squirrel removal specialist. It might also be helpful to use the Google Images Tab and search for gray squirrel droppings or grey squirrel scat.

An integral part of a good wildlife inspection is to look for any animal hairs which could help identify if you are looking for a Norway Roof Rat, house mouse, flying squirrel, raccoon, opossum or grey squirrel. A gray squirrel hair is wavy and has white, tan, grey and block patterns in it. They usually are approximately an inch long and can be found at entry points and in squirrel nests.

Not only are squirrels in the attic annoying to homeowners but the biggest problem is that squirrels living in an attic are a safety issue. It has been estimated that 40 percent of unknown attic electrical fires are from rodents, which most likely would be the grey squirrel because of their destructive habits.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Gastonia and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Humane Bat Control

Bats are surpassed exclusively by rodents as the most numerous mammals in both quantity of individuals and amount of species. There are forty-six recognized bat species present in North America.

Keeping these numbers in mind, there is a high risk of conflict and the need for a bat pest control professional. This is where the bat removal experts could support you in bat pest control. We employ proven removal techniques to exclude bats humanely.

A few bat species are protected or endangered and should not be injured during a bat pest removal job. Bats act as an integral part in our ecosystem by offering biological insect control. There are many types of bat removal from house products that can be purchased over the internet, but while making a decision on what to do about bats, the do it yourself bat removal can be extremely dangerous when you are exposed to certain diseases such as histoplasmosis capsulatum and rabies.

While choosing the proper bat abatement method, some might attempt to use some sort of bat deterrent or bat repellent. These methods have been proven unsuccessful and actually could cause you to get bats in house. The best method of do it yourself bat control would be to use bat eviction valves. This would eliminate any future bat droppings in the attic.
