Critters in the Attic in Denver, NC
Recently there was a homeowner who called and said he just moved into
a brand new, five thousand square foot house in Denver, North Carolina,
located on the waters of Lake Norman. Within days of moving in all his
belongings into his home in Denver, NC, it became apparent that a critter or
critters were living above his tray ceiling.
Around two in the morning it began to sound like a soccer match was being played above their California king sized bed and he had no idea what kind of critter in the attic could make such a commotion. Knowing these details it was
clearly a nocturnal critter living in the attic. This eliminated the
grey squirrel because they are diurnal and would usually be asleep at
After loading up all my critter control supplies, I headed
from my office near the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and
started to make my way towards the Lake Norman area. When I pulled
into the gated community in Denver, NC, I immediately noticed that
several houses had been unfinished or were just sitting vacant. This
area had clearly suffered from the Great Recession.
After driving street after street of unfinished homes, I arrived at my client's
house. He greeted me in his driveway and began to discuss more in
detail his critter problem. He said that he, his wife and two boys had
just relocated from Eugene, Oregon. The corporation he was working for
had just opened a branch in Denver, NC. The homeowner was baffled by
the critters in the attic because nobody had ever lived in the house.
My next question to him was when the house was built. He said 2007,
curiously wondering why that would have anything to do with his
critter removal issue. His soon to be home had sat on the
market for almost four years.
As we finished our conversation in the driveway, I took a quick glance at all the different rooflines he had and my suspicions were that this critter in the attic could be a flying squirrel. So we made our way upstairs and pulled down the attic ladder. The freshly-blown insulation at first glance appeared to be
untouched. I shined my Dewalt 18 volt flashlight across the white, snow-like fiberglass insulation and started to see something peculiar.
There were small holes about the size of a half dollar that the
critter burrowed into the insulation. I then was able to narrow it
down to flying squirrels or mice.
I made my way towards the attic space above the master bedroom. The critter activity in the attic was becoming more substantial. You could now see paths that a smallcritter was running back and forth. The jury was still out as to
whether it was flying squirrels or some type of small critter like a
house mouse. I began to examine the trails a little bit more in
detail. There did not appear to be any critter droppings in the paths.
The big determining factor in identifying whether it is a flying
squirrel problem is their droppings. Flying squirrels will use the
restroom in a latrine or in simple terms an area where critters go to
use the restroom. My mind was made up on the target animal and now the
next step was how to get rid of these Denver, North Carolina flying
squirrels living on Lake Norman.
We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in
Denver and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping.
We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.
Many of the projects we solve involve
raccoon families in attics and chimneys,
mud swallow nests on stucco,
woodpeckers drilling siding,
voles and gophers destroying lawns,
rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics,
skunks stealing pet food
and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.
Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and
commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake;
skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system?
We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife
removal operators and I are prepared to solve.
Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals,
we do a lot of other dirty work, too.
Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal,
pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings,

and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.
I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years.
