Bats in a Log Home in Jackson, Wyoming

I recently handled a bat removal job up in Jackson, Wyoming referred to me by Dean at Dean's Pest Control.

The family owns a 52 acre ranch and is having trouble with bats living in the attic of their log home. They hired me to remove them.

It was a gorgeous drive up to the home. Tall pines rose high above me on either side of the winding mountain road and I actually saw a hawk soaring. A small river ran on the opposite side of the road and I kept thinking that I had missed the house because the road continued on and on. I finally called the customers from my limited cell phone service and they reassured me that I was on the right road and it would just be a few more minutes.

The trees began to clear out and I entered a fabulous meadow filled with wildflowers and tall green mountain grass. A log fence outlined the beginning of the "front yard" and curved toward one of the most beautiful log homes that I've ever seen.

This two-story gorgeous log home had charming gables and windows from the first floor up to the roof. A rough stone fireplace climbed up the right side of the home. I thought: I wouldn't mind at all coming "home" to this place every day. As I set foot on the massive wrap-around front porch, it was unfortunate to see bat guano on the steps and more on the front window. It was awful that such a gorgeous place would be tainted with bats. I knocked on the door and met with the owners.

The owners said they noticed unusual droppings around their home over a few weeks and thought that it was mice. Then the same droppings showed up outside and on their large front window. They called in Dean from Dean's Pest Control in Jackson, Wyoming to do an inspection of the house. He found a colony of bats in the attic and referred the owners to me to handle the situation. The owners heard that if they just waited until it got dark, the bats would go out to eat insects and so they could just seal up the entrance, but they weren't sure so they didn't do anything.

"Thank goodness, you didn't do that!" I told them. "That is the worst thing that you can do. So many people try to take care of these things on their own and they end up just causing more problems down the line. I have been doing this for the last nine years and know what I am doing."

I was able to assess the situation and it appeared that they were accessing the home in several places in between the logs and the roof where the caulking had come loose and the bats had gnawed their way in.

We sent up six bat-removal vents that flushed all of the bats out, cleaned up mess in the attic, off the front window and front porch, and sealed up the sections of the roof.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Jackson Hole and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Bats in the Attic in Jackson Hole, WY

My name is Robert Johnson. I live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and I am very frustrated. I have a colony of bats living in my attic and I want to know how to get rid of them. I had a wild animal control person out here last fall and he told me that I had to wait until when the babies could fly so they would be sure to get all of the bats out when they began to proof the home.

If all of this wasn't bad enough, the wild animal technician told me that he has already treated my house for the same thing under the previous owner. We bought our home last summer and had no idea! The sellers did not think that I would want to know that there was a bat colony in the attic of the home that I am moving my wife and children to? I am also frustrated! Not only did the seller not disclose this information, but if this "wild animal professional" was professional and had already "treated" my house, then why are the bats still here?

I am now working with an attorney to try to get the seller to pay for the bat removal and I am looking for another technician to come out and do the work.

I found a local bat removal contractor from the Allstate Animal Control directory. I need an estimate for the removal of the bats, the guano removal, and the cost for the roof repair so I can submit them to my attorney so we can complete the paperwork.

Follow-up:

I found a wild animal technician from Allstate Animal Control's bat services website. He came out, did an inspection, and gave me the estimate of approximately $2,000 to remove the bats and fix the roof. I hired them to complete the work. They vented out all of the bats, cleaned up the mess, and repaired the roof. I am now working with my attorney and the local courts to try to get the previous owner to pay for the costs. I hope to resolve this out of court and that the seller will just cover the costs of the removal.
