Heber Real Estate Office Used as Bat Haven

Often grand, historic homes are eventually converted to commercial use as the towns they grace grow and change around them. One such home is located in Heber, Utah. This remarkable house is now a large real estate office, full of agents helping people buy and sell homes in this beautiful part of Utah. The building provides a great atmosphere for business, blending the old and new of Utah, and welcoming locals and visitors alike to the area for full-time residence or vacation homes near Park City and ski resorts, such as Deer Valley. One might think it an ideal workplace, but not so. People became more and more aware that this building didn't just house a business, but also a large and growing bat colony of many hundreds of individuals.

The agents became more and more aware that the smell wasn't normal for an old house, and the staining on the building wasn't charming and the occasional bat loose in the office wasn't attracting customers and they weren't going to stand it any more. With a growing mutiny on their hands, the owners decided that they needed to hire someone who knew how to get rid of bats. They called my company, Allstate Bird and Animal Control.

When I arrived for the on-site inspection, I parked across the street and could smell it already! Inside the building it was overpowering. The agents in the office were ready to have the animals gone by any means, but I told them, "We don't kill bats, we will have to vent them out." It was summer and the babies (numerous in the colony) weren't able to fly. Bat control was tricky in this situation because the design of the entrance to the building provided over 30 lineal feet of access in multiple locations and all were used by the animals to enter and exit for their nightly foraging journeys. This job was going to take time.

Over the next while we prepared to empty the building of all uninvited guests. We gradually funneled the bats, creating a sort of custom airport and carefully training them to all use a single exit and entrance. I put everything I know about these amazing animals to work in this job. We scoured the building, covering it inch-by-inch, searching and sealing and blocking. We were able to do this in such a way that the animals (and people in the office) were hardly disturbed. Our priorities were, of course, to please our customers, but also to preserve the animals, as they are necessary in nature, even if unwelcome in a bathroom, office or cubicle.

As we worked in and around the building, searching, maintaining, sealing, and redirecting the occasional confused and disoriented bat, we became a sort of fixture in the office. The people welcomed us and started calling us Batman-and-Robin. They were mostly hoping we truly were super heroes and would rid them of this great plague that threatened to take over their lives. We assured them that this would work, and that we had to be patient, gentle and sensitive with the animals.

Anyway, at last September came. The babies were maturing hunters and able to fly on their own. The left the building for the last time in a great whish, over 200 animals a minute in a black cloud of fluttering life. We sealed off the last entrance and sat in amazement as the animals left for migration, sure to return to Utah next spring, but to a new home. Bat control is very rewarding that way. The animals are safe and free and the people, too, are safe and free to live their lives. I was glad to help out the people of Heber, UT and am proud to be known as the bat man.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Heber City and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Coaching Services for Do-It-Yourself Bat Removal

I recently received a call from a disaster relief restoration company based in Salt Lake City, Utah that wanted to hire me for my expertise in getting rid of bats out of homes. Their client was based in Heber City, Utah, approximately 45 minutes from Salt Lake City.

I told them I would be happy to help as I have removed bats from many homes between the Park City and Heber Valley areas. With the mountain valleys sandwiched between two large reservoirs, there are a lot of insects in the valley making the area prevalent for bats.

The owner sent me digital pictures of the home and the attic had a small colony living up there. I advised them of how they should go about getting rid of the bats and shipped them the products and tools that they needed.

The disaster company was able to get access to the attic by cutting a minor hole in the ceiling and vented them out. They sealed off the entrances and cleaned up the mess and repaired the dry wall and insulation in the ceiling that was destroyed.

I did advise the owner that if the bat problem turned out to be larger than it appeared, that it would be simple for us to go in and take care of the problem so his workers would not have to have rabies shots, etc. Overall, the client paid $300 in coaching fees and $200 for the bat control equipment needed.
