Get rid of Skunks in Ellicott City, Maryland

When people want to get rid of skunks in Ellicott City, Maryland, they usually don't really want to get rid of ALL the skunks. They just want to get rid of the ones that are spraying their pets or digging up their garden or living under their deck or crawl space. It isn't that the good people of Ellicott City are animal haters, they just don't want to share their personal space with this black-and-white critter, or any smelly reminder that it had been in the neighborhood.

When pets, usually dogs, tangle with a skunk they always come away the loser. Skunk spray is oily and, besides smelling terrible, is very irritating to mucus membranes and other tissue. The spray victim will often times be sick—vomiting, streaming eyes, pain. It isn't a pleasant experience at all, and the smell is remarkably difficult to get rid of. Home remedies such as tomato juice are not effective, and even handling the poor animal spreads the smell around. Owners are often surprised and angry to find that after a tomato juice bath, the dog doesn't smell any better and the people who were handling it smell much worse.

People think of urban and suburban skunks as trash eaters, and sometimes one will be found nosing through the spilled contents of a trashcan in the early morning hours. But think about it. These critters don't climb very well and are about the size of a cat. Could they really tip the can over? What usually happen is that a raccoon or even a dog tips the can over and takes what they want. The skunk comes snuffling along later and can't resist picking up an easy snack and gets blamed for the whole mess.

So the critter might be innocent of trash can raiding, but is most certainly not innocent of garden destruction. People want to get rid of skunks when they start rooting and digging through flower beds, uprooting and even eating spring bulbs. Having your garden or flower beds indiscriminately redesigned by a skunk doesn't lead to prize-winning results.

So what most often leads people to want to get rid of skunks? It is when the animal moves in. Skunks that find a good food source, whether pet food, trash or gardens, often decide to live where they eat. The animals will find a space under a deck, in a crawlspace, or in a shed or garage and set up housekeeping. Although the animal might not spray, their basic body odor fills the space and begins to permeate the house and surrounding property. Even the most dedicated animal lover understandably wants to get rid of skunks when they try to become roommates.

Call us when you want to get rid of skunks or other nuisance animals. We provide prompt, professional, humane service.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Ellicott City and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Bats out of control in an Ellicott City, Maryland home

We have had three bats flying around in our home at different times over the past two months. I am really tired of trying to shoo them out the door. This isn't the first time that we have had a problem with them in our home. Our home was built in the early 1920s and we seem to have a problem with them every summer over the last three years we have lived here. My wife gets freaked out every time there is a bat in the house and finally told me that if I didn't take care of it this time that she was going to move home with her mother until they were gone. I know that there is a problem, but I have no idea how to remove the bats from our home.

I finally called the Division of Wildlife Services and they told me that they really don't service homes with bat problems.

"Great!" I said. "My wife is threatening to leave if I don't get them taken care of, what am I going to do?"

The division recommended me to a local professional bat removal technician. They said he has been removing bats from homes and other properties for the last fifteen years. I called him right away and was pleasantly surprised when his secretary told me that my homeowner's insurance might even cover the cost of the bat removal. I made an appointment for the very next day and this appeased my wife long enough that she said she would stick around for a while longer.

The technician inspected the outside of our home first, finding all of the possible places that the bats might be getting in and out of the attic. He then used a special air venting system to remove all of the bats. Then he sealed up all of the possible access points so the bats could not return and reenter.

After that, he and his small crew put on what looked like hazmat suits and climbed up into the attic. They cleaned up all of the bat guano and removed the soiled insulation and disinfected the area. Now my wife is extremely happy, and so am I.
